The Peace Education Program was launched in 2009, to promote nonviolent conflict resolution among the youth and in schools through peace clubs, with some lessons from US peer mediation programs. Currently the peace clubs have been created in 30 secondary schools in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, in partnerships with 2 schools in US.
In addition to the peace clubs, the Peace Education program includes a Peace Leadership Development component, aimedatcontributing to the development of the large and growing young African adults in a global setting, to enable their generation to step up and respond to the challenges of leading their countries, their regions, communities and their world under a peace architecture. The long term goal is to develop a sustainable culture of peace leaders who can serve (govern) justly, under the core Values of:
The leadership development activities include scholarships, prizes, peace camps, training workshops and institutes, mentorship, internship, apprenticeship, and placement; etc.
With additional support or donations, the Peace Education Program will be expanded to other schools in Nigeria and Africa, plus the training of teachers in related curriculum development and provision of critical materials and facilities. Further, the peace education plan includes the building of vocational skills projects in schools and communities that provide critical job skills, create employment opportunities and build internal capacity for community entrepreneurship.
