about us
Afripeace Foundation is the vision and brainchild of Dr. Ernest Uwazie, Professor of Criminal Justice and director/founder of its parallel academic /university based Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) at California State University, Sacramento. Afripeace is founded on the vision of a community based, grassroots level, youth and professional adult interest in promoting US-Africa relations through peace and cross-cultural exchanges. The mission is driven by the belief that the Worlds’ superpower –USA- and emerging/2nd largest continent-Africa - have much to learn and contribute from/to each other, especially in fostering peace and development under democracy. The organization aims to build, develop and/or deepen positive, long lasting cross-cultural/peace relationships, professional networks and exchanges, and personal growth through its 3 major programs: Peace Education for promoting youth peace architecture/culture; Youth Peace and Cultural Education for developing conflict resolution as well as problem solving skills and build cultural competence; and Explore Peace and Conflict Resolution for people- to- people exchanges and networking among leaders, citizens, and practitioners engaged in broader areas of peace and conflict resolution at various levels of the society and governments.
To date over 75 students, 10 educators, and 20 professionals and community leaders from the US have had a first- hand experience of Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Africa) under the exchange programs. Similarly over 5,000 African youth have participated in, and benefited from, the various Afripeace programs in different parts of Africa. Program participants have predominant positive experiences of the programs, through the possession of critical social or problem solving skills, global education or exposure, life changing cultural immersion experience, creation of new projects, increased cross-cultural understanding, development of networks, and etc. .
