The Youth Peace & Cultural Education Program
Purpose: To promote youth leadership through global education and peace exchanges between the US and African youth and a cultural immersion experience in Africa/Ghana for the US team, via conflict resolution and problem solving activities, educational instructions, peer dialogues and social interactions, community service projects, and language and cultural experiences.
Eligibility: High School students, 10-12th grades—at the time of travel in summer 2017.
Application: Complete and submit the application form, with a one page letter of interest (State your personal/academic background, your reason(s) for applying to the program, and Explain how you plan to apply and share your experience from the program), one letter of reference from your teacher, pastor/ organization leader, and $15 fee (non-refundable).
Pre-trip Orientations: Selected candidates must attend approximately 3-5 pre-trip orientation sessions and a five day 9AM-4PM- conflict resolution workshop in June 2017, plus online exchanges, and read a book selection. July 7-28 are approximate travel dates. More details will be presented at pre-trip orientations; to be announced upon selection, or on request by a prospective group/school site.
FEE: Participants are expected to pay $5,400 toward the program expenses; including
international airfare to/from US/Ghana, all breakfast meals, all meals during 5 days of homestays; lodging, group admission into museums, parks, and slave castles; ground transportation and local guides in Africa; and project administration. Initial deposit of $2,500 is due upon acceptance; $1,500 on January 20th 2017. Final payment $1,400 is due April 20th, 2017. Churches, businesses, organizations, philanthropists, and schools are invited to sponsor participants. Your donations are tax deductible!
Note: Additional personal expenses include: US international passport, Ghana entry visa, vaccinations, travel/medical insurance, plus bottled/ drinking water and other lunch and dinner meals in Ghana. Optional College credits for an additional cost & application.

Project Leadership: The project will be directed by the Afripeace Chairman, Dr. Ernest Uwazie, with the assistance of Mrs. Pam Bodnar (Afripeace VP-Programs). In addition, there will be 2 US trained adult/teacher guides before and during the trip to Ghana, plus an experienced guide and lead partner in Ghana.
